Love Letter si articola in diversi round di gioco in cui ogni giocatore assolderà alleati, amici e parenti della Principessa affinché le consegnino una lettera d’intenti. La carta che un giocatore ha nella sua mano rappresenta il personaggio che attualmente possiede la lettera di quel giocatore, ma questo personaggio può cambiare durante il round mano a mano che il giocatore pesca e gioca le carte. Per vincere un round bisogna avere la carta con il valore più alto alla fine del round, o essere l’unico giocatore rimasto nel round.
